Young Enterprise News

The Scottish National Finals of Young Enterprise was held on Thursday 29th May. 14 teams were competing from across Scotland after winning in their local area for a selection of awards.

Our team (Food For Thought) spent all day today completing multiple competitions, teamworking tasks, interviews and 3 members even had to stand up and give a presentation in front of over 200 people. As always, they did themselves and our school proud. Osahon, Cara and Melissa specifically impressed all with their presentation skills.

Throughout the award ceremony we received many top 3 nominations and, in the end, managed to come home with 3 awards which is simply an outstanding achievement. The team won the overall award for having the biggest Social Impact which was so important to them as their  focus this year has been to help tackle food poverty in their own community and having thier hard work recognised meant a great deal to them.

They also won The People’s Choice Award and on behalf of the team, we want to thank all of you that took the time to vote for them and shared their story with others. This award was only possible because of the amount of support the team managed to get from our school, local community and beyond so they are very grateful. In total over 5000 votes were collected and a 5th of them were for us so again thank you for your support with this.

Finally, we won the award for Best Business Report in Scotland our young people were praised for being “reflective, honest and witty” in their writing. This really was a team effort and this is the first time that a Johnstone High team has won this award so again an incredible achievement.

Unfortunately, we did not manage to secure the top prize however once all of the points were totalled it was revealed that Food for Thought placed second in Scotland. Given how fierce the competition was this year, we are absolutely over the moon with this. Another fantastic group of young people who have achieved a fantastic thing and we are so very proud of them!

Thank you again for all your support this year, we know that the YE experience is one that these pupils cherish and thank everyone who has been a part of their journey.
